Uninstalling IE 8 from XP SP3

Last week, I decided to uninstall Internet Explorer beta 2 from a Windows XP machine.

But the add/remove option for IE 8 was disabled!

A number of Google searched revealed absolutely nothing! Despair!

I found plenty of articles suggesting that it should be as simple as clicking remove from add/remove in control panel.

Further digging lead to a solution.

Since installing IE 8, I also upgraded the client’s PC to XP SP3.

you must uninstall SP3 first (approx a 10 min process and ignore the warnings!)

Then after a system restart, the remove option for IE8 becomes available.

I hope this helps anyone else who experiences this strange phenomenon.

Incidentally, I did finally find a microsoft article with this information – but it took a while to find this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/950719

BTW: you can download IE8 beat 2 from here
