Hiding GMAIL IMAP folders

If you use IMAP for gmail there are a number of folders you may want to hide such as “Bin”, “All Mail”, and “Starred.

This is simple to deal with . Just login to Gmail in your web browser, click Settings (top right) and then “Labs” (top right)

Then “Enable” “Advanced IMAP Controls” and then “Save Changes” at the top.

Then click on “Settings” once again (top right) and then on “Labels” and you can hide the folders you no longer want to see in your email client (e.g. Outlook)

It is a very good idea to hide “All Mail” since temptation to delete mail will delete from all email that was filed in folders!
